Highlights from the
79th Annual General Meeting 2005/06 Season
|
The
79th Annual General Meeting of the Southend & District Table
Tennis League was held at the Rawreth TTC venue, on 28
June 2006.
The items below are some points
raised under A.O.B. which Club Secretary’s and Team Captains should be aware of
for the forthcoming season.
- Play Off
competition for the end of season. The proposal for an end of season play-off
competition was discussed. A number
of suggestions for the competition were taken from the floor and it was
agreed that the Executive would look into the proposal, formulate the
competition, then write to the Club Secretary’s / Team Captains for their
input, before inputting the competition to the end season.
- Ladies Vets event
at the Closed Tournament. Due to the
increasing entry to the Closed Tournament, the committee has had to look
at ways to stream-line the schedule of events in order to complete the
tournament within reasonable timescales.
The Ladies events have to be played on one day, which in its self
causes timescale problems due to the number of events including the
restricted event that they are in.
The Ladies themselves have stated that this can be exhausting. The suggestion of removing the Ladies Vets
event and merging the Ladies and Men’s Vets event to become the Vet’s
Singles event was discussed. It was
agreed that for the forthcoming Closed Tournament we would trial the Vets
Singles event and restore the Ladies Vets event for the 2008 Closed
Tournament should it be deemed necessary.
- Birthday Dates
for qualification to Junior/Vets events. It was
suggested that SDTTL change the birthday date for qualification for O’60’s
and O’70’s events be changed from 1st January to 1st
September. The AGM rejected this
proposal voting to stay with the current rule in line with the ETTA rules.
- Doubles Format
for the Winter Season. Keeping with
tradition, it was suggested that a game of doubles be added to the Winter Season
format. This was again rejected by
the AGM.
- Rosebowl
Handicaps. Members have expressed
that the current handicapping system, used for the Rosebowl Knockout
competition based around the 21 point format, makes the games in some
cases, far too long. Dave Morgan of
Customs, has written to KAF with a proposal to
change the system, which has been tried and tested in a game against Thorpe Bay. Dale Gutterage of RESSC,
also presented a system that he had played in the North West Kent &
Bromley League. The AGM agreed that
changes had to be made and where happy for the Executive Committee to look
into this for the next season.
- Last Date for
Registering a Player. It was agreed
that the rule relation to the last date for registering and player to the
SDTTL should be highlighted in the handbook and on the result sheet.
- Sponsorship for
Paul Reed. Paul Reed, currently with a
moustache, has agreed to shave it off and be sponsored for it with all
profits going to the Heart Foundation and Leukaemia Research. Paul asked for permission for the
“Great Shave Off” to be done at the Presentation Evening on the 15th
July. This was agreed.
