Essex Junior Interleague 2011 - 2012

Southend and District Juniors finished close runners up in the Essex Junior Table Tennis Interleague tournament, held at B.A.T.T.S  in Harlow .
    The competition was open to all leagues in Essex and the team for each match consisted of 4 juniors. Southend and District Table Tennis League representative team consisted of 4 players, in ranking order - Owen Warren, Charlie Bates, Emily Godfrey & Behn Taylor .  Five leagues competed for the Essex Junior crown.
    Each team had to list their players in ranking order and the 1 and 2 ranked players played both the oppositions 1 and 2 players together with a doubles match. The same applied for players ranked 3 and 4.

    The 1st match was against Colchester . Owen & Charlie were unbeaten in singles & doubles. Emily & Behn each won 1 of their 2 singles matches & were victorious in the doubles.  Southend 8 Colchester 2.

    Against a very strong Chelmsford team, Charlie Bates won both singles, beating both Scot Dowsett 3-0 & Robert Shrimpton 3-1. Emily Godfrey beat Jack Crook 3-2 to make the final score 3-7 in Chelmsford ’s favour.

    Braintree entered a team this season. An excellent performance from all 4 Southend Juniors included Owen & Charlie winning the singles against Ryan Sanderson & Ben Page, but the Braintree top seeds won the doubles 3-0. Emily & Behn were unbeaten & Southend won the match 9-1.

    With Southend only 2 points behind Chelmsford , going into the last round, the Southend juniors showed true team spirit to win 8-2 against last years champions, Clacton . Behn Taylor & Emily Godfrey gained maximum points, while Owen Warren & Charlie Bates only lost to high Essex ranked, James Denyer.

It was an excellent and enjoyable day for all 5 leagues with Chelmsford (30pts) taking the honours. Southend juniors were runners up with 28 points.

     All Southend juniors must be congratulated for their outstanding performance.
